Community Philanthropy in Zimbabwe
In this segment, AGAG Executive Director Niamani Mutima talks with Eddah Jowah and Dr. Tendai Murisa of the Sivio Institute about their research on community philanthropy in Zimbabwe.
They discuss two recent reports, “Community Foundations in Zimbabwe: An Analysis of Eleven Case Studies” and “Evaluating Impact of COVID-19 on Community-Based Organizations and Foundations.” Taken together, both reports provide new information on the landscape of community philanthropy in Zimbabwe and the impact of the pandemic on the organizations themselves and their ability to serve their communities.

About Eddah Jowah
Eddah Jowah is currently Programs Manager and Coordinator of the Centre for Philanthropy of the SIVIO Institute. She is a project management professional and keen researcher, with ten years of experience in the development sector with regional and international organizations. She has a Master of Arts in Sociology Degree (Rhodes). Before joining SIVIO, she worked for The Palladium Group as the Awards Coordinator for the Australia Awards – Africa program. Prior to that, she worked for the East Cape Agricultural Research Project in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
About Dr. Tendai Murisa
Dr. Murisa is currently the Executive Director of the SIVIO institute. He is a development practitioner and researcher with over 15 years of experience working across Africa. He was a research fellow at the Sam Moyo Africa Institute for Agrarian Studies and began his tenure at Trust Africa as a Program Officer and ultimately became the Executive Director. Murisa has published on a wide range of subjects and edited three books on Zimbabwe and Southern Africa. He was educated at the University of Zimbabwe (BSc Hons, political science), Leeds University (MA, development studies) and Rhodes University (DPhil, sociology).
