AGAG has been shaped and sustained by the people who have been part of its evolution… they have demonstrated the positive influence that can happen when colleagues come together in a welcoming and inclusive space.

Convening

For the past 23 years AGAG’s convenings have provided a unique meeting space where practitioners have met colleagues they would not otherwise have gotten to know. For funders working in Africa, building knowledge and promoting collaboration within the field is challenging because of the continent’s distance, diversity of interests, and scale. The intersectional problems that communities across Africa experience pose a direct and warranted challenge to the philanthropic sector’s siloed, narrow, and incremental approach to enduring challenges.

AGAG is grounded in the belief that a global network of diverse, knowledgeable, and connected practitioners will help to grow and strengthen the impact of private philanthropy targeting Africa. AGAG created a gathering place for a diverse community of practitioners based inside and outside of Africa and was the only regular convening in the United States of funders making grants to support communities across Africa. The annual meeting became its signature event and fueled its reputation as a unique space where new and experienced practitioners engaged in candid conversations about the issues affecting their work.

The following is a list of the annual convenings AGAG organized from 2000 to 2023.
