Support Beyond the Check: Navigating the Impact of COVID - 19 Discussion Series

The COVID-19 crisis has disrupted the way we work, communicate, and interact with each other. During this time of social distancing and self-imposed isolation, having a sense of connections to a community of your peers is important. The current situation is dynamic and uncharted. As a network, Africa Grantmakers' Affinity Group (AGAG) has worked to build and strengthen professional relationships between funders based inside and outside of Africa.

Over the next six weeks, AGAG will resume our discussion series, "Support Beyond the Check" with an expanded focus - Navigating the Impact of COVID-19." Launched in 2019 in partnership with the Global Fund for Children, the three-part series was a follow up to discussions at the 2019 Annual Conference about the ways funders are supporting organizations beyond a grant.

"Support Beyond the Check: Navigating the Impact of COVID- 19" is a weekly discussion series held every Thursday where funders can connect with each other and share information. The times will be alternated between 9:15 am and 1:15 pm to allow for easier participation from colleagues based in Africa. Funders can also participate in an online discussion group where they can continue the conversation from the weekly meetings, identify common interests, share resources, and exchange information discussions.

The series will kick off on Thursday, March 26 at 1:15 pm EST.

Topics will include:

• what are funders hearing from their grantee partners about the support they need

• how are funders positioning themselves to respond to the shifting environment

• how can funders be supportive of each other in navigating the impact of COVID-19 on their grantmaking approach and strategy

• how to manage the dynamics of working virtually.

Most importantly, the discussion series seeks to provide a gathering space where the Africa funding community can connect with each other.
