Looking Back, Building Forward: Lessons, Insights and Strategies

2010 Retreat - PDF - The meeting reflected on trends in Africa over the past ten years.  There have been impressive advances but across the continent but communities still battle poverty, the impact of HIV/AIDS and economic disparities.

International development aid and regional cooperation efforts have not been able to move the needle as far as it was hoped in confronting the challenges African leaders faced in post-independence.  Looking forward there are exciting new initiatives such as the Liberia Secretariat and the African Grantmakers’ Network that seeks to harness local philanthropy.
